Proteinase 3 (PR3) is a serine protease stored in cytoplasmic azurophilic granules of neutrophil granulocytes, where it is involved in the degradation of microorganisms within the phagolysosomes. In addition, PR3 contributes to the destruction of pathogens in the extracellular environment.
